Improve quality of life for employees to improve companies, their industries, and the planet as a whole
Our clients want to do more for the planet. Also, they recognize that employee well-being makes a workplace culture thrive. To this end, we've partnered with Adventure Scientists to put "more green" into corporate places by taking their employees to new places. The result: reRoot - an office to outdoors employee satisfaction program.
Creating a Win-Win
Research shows that time in nature benefits mental health and increases productivity. However, many hardworking people struggle to set aside the time, find the right outlet, and even muster the confidence to engage with and enjoy the affective benefits of nature. Concurrently, people recognize the existential threat of climate crisis and want to do something meaningful about it.
In response, the reRoot program pairs all types of adventurers with ongoing research activities through Adventure Scientists, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. As citizen scientists, employees gather data as they explore the outdoors, advancing scientific knowledge in the process.
The premise is simple: Give employees a purpose and tools to get outside and engage with nature, then welcome them back ready to reinvigorate the workplace.
Among its Benefits
Feeling more grounded and connected to the environment: Most of our clients' employees work in competitive technology, which can feel like the farthest point from the environment. Many employees struggle to reconcile the adverse impacts of their industry, such as contributing to e-waste. As our clients work to improve corporate practices, they want to ensure there's an outlet for employees to do the same.
Putting employee skills and abilities to the test: Because many of our clients' employees work in technology, they know how solve problems creatively. Working indoors, they know how to collect, organize, track and report data. Through Adventure Scientists, employees with backgrounds in data science can lend a hand to the scientific community.
How it Works
Employees apply to reRoot through their Human Resources department. All clients involved will fund employee participation, including additional paid leave and travel expenses.
Solvent Blue will work with employees to identify research projects with Adventure Scientists that can maximize employee interests. Some projects may be local to employees and others farther away.
Solvent Blue packages an adventure within the employee's comfort level and provides training to ensure success.
Training includes a 20-hour course that A) on-boards employees to their Adventure Scientist research project, and B) teaches preparedness from the National Outdoor Leadership School in basic first aid, logistics, and Leave No Trace.
