Natural wonders, expansive landscapes, and diverse social and ecological communities come to mind when one thinks of the American West. For all its beauty, the region shares a legacy of hardship and faces tremendous contemporary challenges due to climate crisis. In the American West, climate crisis:
Transforms periodic drought into a new normal of persistent drought [1].
Drains freshwater resources and constrains their potential for replenishment [2].
Contributes to hotter, drier, and longer summers, amplifying wildfire risk [3].
To meaningfully address the crisis, the human family must act. Political rhetoric, economic policies, and socio-cultural division complicate a united, global front. Efforts at the local level can make a difference.
In support of the "American The Beautiful" Initiative, Solvent Blue will launch a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called The Guardian Project. The Guardian Project adapts Solvent Blue's three-stage approach and services fit for urban businesses to private properties in rural areas.
The Guardian Project partners with private landowners at select sites across the western United States to provide no-cost resources that create and augment conservation practice. Landowners know their lands best and, as agents of change, can conserve and strengthen ecosystems on those lands.
